Teaching Hospitals

Edenvale
The Department of Medicine initiated an outreach program to Edenvale Hospital (a level 2 regional facility) in 2009 the aims of which were two-fold: - to 1) stabilize and improve clinical services and to 2) extend the teaching / training platform. As part of cluster development the appropriate up- and down-referral of patients facilitates the diversion of patients to appropriate treatment levels. Clinic services are rendered more efficient with improved patient outcomes and an improved integrated and stabilized clinical cluster creates a platform to extend training and academic activities at the under-, post-graduate and allied levels.

Sebokeng Hospital
This outreach programme is now in its 4th year. Three physicians from Bara are based at Sebokeng Hospital for 3 months at a time in rotation. This programme has been of tremendous benefit to Sebokeng Hospital: the quality of organization, discipline, quality of patient care, and training of doctors have all benefitted significantly. Our senior staff visit the hospital every Friday to provide support and teaching.
